My passion to empower birthing mothers was sparked in 2009, when I became pregnant with my first baby. I was terrified of birth! The idea of pushing an 8.5 pound human being through my body really overwhelmed me! Lucky for me, my collage roommate was an aspiring natural birth doula, which at the time, I had no idea what in the heck that was! But she blessed my life with ideas I had never heard of; waterbirth, how to spin a baby, peanut balls, prenatal yoga, rebozos and painless, orgasmic birth! What?…these words were like a foreign language which - the more I learned, the less fearful I became and the more empowered I felt! Knowledge truly is power! It was during this transformation that my desire to uplift, educate and support other mommas was kindled. Just a year later, in 2010, while attending my sister’s first birth, encouraging her, verbally affirming her, and ultimately catching her sweet little water-birth baby, I realized THIS was my calling! After delivering my home waterbirth babies, and nurturing my little family through our tender years, finally in 2018, God opened the doors and I began my formal training as a CAPPA doula with Heather McCoullough, CPM, CPD, CBD, CLE in Chicago, and CAPPA Doula Ruth Kraft in Kalamazoo. And I’ve had the honor of supporting birthing mothers of Northern Michigan ever since!
